Bass Tone for Advanced Players
When people talk about "Sadowsky Tone", they usually mean a tonally versatile bass that nicely cuts through the overall sound. More detailed descriptions refer to the tight and punchy bottom-end, or aggressive but warm slap sounds with a consistent bite across the whole fretboard. For sure, such characteristics are an overall result from the choice of tonewoods as well as the general construction of an instrument. However, the pickups we developed together with the NYC luthier Roger Sadowsky bring all the prerequisites for the official Sadowsky Tone.
Common features of all Sadowsky pickup styles:
• suitable for passive as well as active electronics
• options for 4- and 5-strined basses available either as set or separately
• string spacing suitable for the most classic bass designs
• ideal for replacements, modifications, or custom bass builds
J-Style Pickups
In this pickup category (which is popular not only among jazz players), four variants are at choice. They may look similar with their open pole pieces but their tone is tailored to different tastes: Straightforward Single Coils with versatile tone. Noise-cancelling Split Coils with different magnets for lower and higher strings to combine smooth vintage tone with modern definition. Noise-cancelling Split Coils with dynamic sound, powerful response, and distinctive overtones. Noise-cancelling Stacked Coils with two coils stacked on top of each other so that hum and other noises are suppressed just like in a humbucker.
P-Style Pickups
A refined, hum-cancelling design is also offered for the pickup type which is most famous for its powerful, growly bass tone with huge low-end – especially in Rock, Soul, and other classic music styles. For the purists, either separately available as neck pickup – or as set combined with a J-style pickup.
Soapbar Pickups
Probably the pickup type most commonly associated with modern and progressive bass tone. Here, the hum-cancelling dual coil-design is sealed in a black cover – as an option, brushed metal covers give these Soapbars advanced premium looks.
