The AG2PB/918 is a high impedance preamp for use with piezo or microphonic transducers. It features adjustable gain which allows you to boost the input signal up to 12dB (4X) while maintaining flat frequency response. It is less than half the size of a 9-volt battery making it ideal for instruments with limited cavity space. The AG2PB/918 provides a strong output signal and isolation from external equipment that may otherwise adversely affect pickup tone. It is often used to make a passive instrument active with very little effort. With only 4 wires to connect power, ground, input, and output it is a simple way to ensure your piezo-pickup instrument has all the power and isolation that it needs. The AG2PB/918 provides 2 independent high impedance buffers in the same space as the AGPB/918. This is great for separately boosting 2 pickups from a split piezo saddle, as part of an independent setup for individual string saddles, or to mix a piezo with a microphonic transducer. Individual gain trimmers per channel give you a lot of flexibility. Like all of our preamps, the Piezo buffers are internally shielded to reject electromagnetic noise and include internal filters to block AM and FM radio on the inputs. Bartolini set the standard of fully sealing the sensitive electronics. We use professional double tin plated pure copper wire with durable semi-rigid insulation. This ensures the 4" pre-stripped wires dont flop around in the cavity and the wires dont cut through the insulation over time. Either preamp can be used with either a single 9-volt battery (9-volt operation) or two 9-volt batteries wired in series (18-volt operation) for double the (6dB extra) headroom with no tonal change. The TC series are our original preamps known as "The Chip". They are hand-made with discrete electronic components for very low noise, outstanding distortion characteristics when overdriven, and very long battery life. They are rugged, reliable and easy to install. In most cases do not require modifications to the instrument. The different versions provide different gain levels and area available as single or dual channel. The TC series are vintage designs that can be used in simple or complex ways. They include a boost signal that can be used by professional guitar technicians to further increase the output gain or to shape the frequency response for bass, mid, or treble boost. Because they rely on electrical current feedback for amplification, the tone is very well suited for high-output guitar setups. The TC series delivers very satisfying frequency-phase shift and asymmetric tube-like distortion when overdriven. Like all of our electronics modules, the TC preamps are internally shielded to reject electromagnetic noise and include internal filters to block AM and FM radio on the inputs. The four separate buffers in the TQB Quad Buffer can reduce electronic noise levels in instruments with passive pickups and some of our on-board preamps. Each buffer in the TQB is a low noise amplifier with a gain of 1, an input impedance of 270 kOhms and an output impedance of less than 10 kOhms. This low output impedance allows the TQB to drive 25 kOhm Volume or Blend controls very easily. This configuration was used in many instruments by Michael Tobias in the mid-late 80's.
