Very often, the output signal of acoustic instruments, as delivered either by a pickup or microphone, is not strong enough to use it with amplifiers or effects. In most cases, a preamp or booster will help. In this way, also western and concert guitars, but also ukuleles, banjos, mandolins, and even blues harps can easily be used together with all kinds of effects devices.
