In 2002, Oliver Ackermann founded a small stompbox workshop and named it Death by Audio. The name quickly became synonymous with the warehouse in an old industrial building in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn, where it all started and an open space for artists, DIY, live gigs and recording began to bloom. This is also where Ackerman’s band A Place to Bury Strangers initially became famous as “New York’s loudest band”. Soon well-known way beyond the scene and steadily growing, the company later moved to Brooklyn. Until today, all products are developed and competently hand-build in this location. How much passion, creativity, and good sound is put into these small boxes not only shows in their skillful circuit and graphic designs – also the artists, e.g. Lou Reed, U2, Wilco, Nine Inch Nails, My Bloody Valentine, or Radiohead who became endorsers of the brand is impressive. Death by Audio stompboxes from almost all known effects categories are currently available, and all of them are extraordinary in their own special way. Quite often, one pedal even contains several effects, for example the Echo Dream 2 that also has Fuzz and Modulation integrated.
